1. Ghost-Writing
If you want to write your business book but don't have the time, hire an award-winning ghost-writer, book coach and best-selling author to do it for you. This service will help you write your business biography, memoir or motivational book.
As a complete 'Done For You' service, my ghost-writing package includes:
- Researching and writing the book
- Interviews with you, your colleagues, collaborators etc
- Writing the publishing proposal
- Advocating for you with publishers
- Sitting with you on publishing meetings
- Working with the Wiley editors, typesetters, cover designers, marketing and sales team and shepherding it to publication
- Assistance with marketing advice, partnership opportunities etc
The ghost-writing service generally takes around 12 months from start to finish.
What else you need to know:
Wiley will expect you to purchase your books from them at a wholesale price for your personal use. It will cost around:
- $10/book
- If you bought 2,000 books for your own purposes…
- Cost: $20,000
This ‘buy back’ fee covers all the costs of editing, typesetting, cover design, printing, sales and distribution, etc. Once you sign with Wiley, and hand over the completed manuscript, they will take care of everything. They will do some marketing for you, but not much.
I am sure you have your own contacts but I refer my clients to an Australian book publicist called Scott Eathorne. He will get you coverage on TV, radio, podcasts, blogs etc.
His fees: $9000 + GST for a 3-month campaign.
Some authors build a dedicated website for the book, but that is optional.
As you would know, this is a hugely important area. It is up to you how much you spend on driving traffic to the website and book sites, but Wiley will give you a range of cost options for buying billboards at airports, inclusions in bookstore catalogues, etc., and they will help you produce all those assets.

Your investment
My fee is $1.90 + GST per word with a 50,000-word minimum ($95,000 + GST) and a maximum fee of $130,000 + GST.
Some clients prefer to keep the book tight and concise, and 50K words is sufficient for a good business book. Some clients want a longer book as they need more space to tell their story. I cap my fees at $130,000 + GST, so if the book goes over the word count, there is no extra cost to you, and you can have the book length run as long you want.
